Just off the coast of Goa, hidden beneath the surface, are forests.

Not the forests you and I may know. These are seaweed forests: intelligent and luminous. Their story is almost as old as the earth itself. The oxygen in our lungs, the green you see on land, the clouds that gather above coastal waters: all of it traces back to seaweed.

India is home to over 800 species of seaweed. And every year, from November to April, Goa's coastline transforms as great swaying canopies of Sargassum rise along rocky outcrops, sheltering entire worlds of marine life beneath them. Most people walk or swim right past them at the beach, never knowing of their existence.

Step into the Sea takes the first visual documentation of a seaweed forest in India and transmutes it into an interdisciplinary immersive experience where visitors are invited to be viscerally in contact with this magnificent ecosystem.
