It Comes in Waves || 3'45"
16mm experimental documentary

Look through this kaleidoscope. What do you see? A small town in India, once colonised, now free. The world evolves each day, and so do we.

Shot in Kalimpong on 16mm film, It Comes in Waves reflects on what it means to be living with a landscape that holds generations of memory. The film considers the traces left by colonial histories alongside the quieter rhythms of everyday contemporary life, asking how places continue to remember even as they change.

Every image and effect was created in-camera. The film was hand-developed, hand-spliced, and scanned using a DIY scanner so that it could reach you here today. There is no digital post-production. The physical film retains the memory of its own making: each splice, scratch, and chemical trace remains visible, allowing the material history of the film to exist alongside the histories embedded within the landscape it records.
